Motorcycle Insurance

Florida is second in the nation when it comes to the number of motorcycles on the road. Only beaten by California (which has a higher population), Florida has around 600,000 registered motorcycles. Add the hundreds to thousands of bikes estimated to be unregistered but in use plus all the cars and other vehicles in the state, and you've got some of the most congested roads in the nation.

Setting the Sunshine State apart is the fact that motorcycle insurance here is not required. At least not in the traditional sense. It's one of just a small handful of states who don't have fully mandatory motorcycle insurance.

But for those who think this means you can go ahead and hit the road uninsured, think again. At Morgan Insurance Services, we're here to help motorcyclists in FL, and throughout the state, meet legal requirements and have the coverage they need in the event of an accident.

Here's what you need to know about motorcycle insurance in Florida and why it's probably the right choice for you.

Proof of Financial Responsibility

If you're a motorcyclist in Florida, you need to either have insurance coverage or be able to "demonstrate financial responsibility." In a nutshell, this means you must be able to cover the potential costs of an accident. You'll have to provide proof of this financial responsibility when registering your motorcycle. Otherwise, you will need an insurance policy. The truth of the matter is that most people are unable to provide this proof, and so getting insured is much more practical.

Even if you can provide proof of financial responsibility, the costs of a motorcycle accident can be extremely high, especially when it comes to bodily injury. Having proper insurance coverage mitigates the risk of financial ruin.

The 'Helmet' Law

You may have heard of Florida's helmet laws, in that wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle is not a legal requirement. Again, this is not quite the truth. If you plan to ride without a helmet, you are required to carry insurance coverage. Get caught doing so without it, and you could face some very extreme fines.
